Document tips for families

The 6-month passport rule

Many popular destinations — including Turkey, Egypt, and several others — require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. Check every passport in your family against your return date, not just the departure date.

Always carry physical copies

Download everything to your phone, but also print copies of your most critical documents — passport photo page, insurance policy, booking confirmations, and accommodation address. Phones die, get lost, or lose signal at the worst moments.

Email yourself a document pack

Send a single email to yourself with scans or photos of every critical document. Subject line: 'Travel documents [destination] [dates]'. Accessible from any device, anywhere in the world.

Children travelling with one parent

If you're travelling with your children without the other parent, carry a signed letter of consent from them, along with their contact details. Some border officials ask for this — it's rare, but being prepared avoids a very stressful situation.
