How we research and write our guides
Every guide on Family Travel Toolkit is written by parents who have actually taken the trips. This page explains our standards for research, writing, fact-checking, and keeping content accurate over time.

First-hand experience first
Our primary editorial standard is that destination guides and trip-type advice are written by parents who have personally visited the place or taken that type of trip with their children. We do not publish AI-generated destination content as if it were first-hand experience.
Where a guide draws on research rather than personal experience — for example, a destination we haven't visited yet — we say so clearly and cite the sources we used.
Sources and fact-checking
Practical information — entry requirements, health advice, transport costs, attraction opening times — is verified against official sources before publication. We link to those sources directly so you can check the latest position yourself.
For health and medical topics we follow NHS guidance and link to NHS or official public-health sources. We do not give medical advice.
Prices and costs are illustrative. We note the date they were checked and recommend you verify current prices before booking.
How we use AI tools
We use AI tools (including the itinerary planner on this site) to help structure ideas, generate packing list suggestions, and draft outlines. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and verified by a human editor before publication.
We never publish AI-generated content as authoritative fact without human verification. The trip planner generates personalised suggestions — not guaranteed advice. See our AI Use & Limitations policy for full details.
Updates and corrections
Travel information changes. We review our most-visited guides at least annually and update them when we receive reliable reports of changes. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.
If you spot an error or outdated information, please let us know via the contact page. We take correction reports seriously and aim to respond within 5 working days.
Significant corrections are noted at the top of the relevant article with a brief explanation of what changed and why.
Commercial relationships and independence
Some links on this site are affiliate links — we may earn a small commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence which destinations, products, or services we recommend. We only feature partners we would use ourselves.
We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. If a brand provides a complimentary product or experience for review, we disclose this clearly in the relevant article and our review reflects our honest opinion.
See our full Affiliate Disclosure for details of how commissions work.
